Where to buy your DIY supplies this Bank Holiday weekend

It might seem to many of us lately that every day is a Bank Holiday but two real ones are coming up and it looks like the weather in Worthing will be warm and sunny. What better time to get cracking on all those jobs you’ve been putting off?

As many of us resign ourselves to a weekend of sanding, cleaning and decorating or gardening, we might struggle to find the supplies we need. Many of the larger companies we rely on have very long delivery times or little or no stock.

So we’ve done some research to find out where you can still obtain paints and garden supplies without leaving home.

B&Q at Homebush – a staple for this sort of thing but when we checked, there didn’t seem to be much chance of a home delivery. Click and Collect seems to be operating but in the current climate, is that a journey that is really necessary?

It’s the same at Wickes in Dominion Road. Their website warns of long wait times and advises customers not to visit the store until they have received confirmation that their order is ready.

Our advice? Think local. Our Worthing owned High Street shops need us now more than ever and many have adapted to continue trading, offering free, risk-free deliveries.

Goring Hardware http://www.goringhardware.co.uk at 20-22 Goring Rd promotes itself as an Aladdin’s Cave for home and garden. And it’s true. If you can’t find what you need there, you probably don’t really need it. The shop is still open but they will deliver for free, next day on most items. Bulbs for your lights or garden, paint, brushes, sandpaper, cleaning supplies, its all there. Products aren’t shown on the website so best to ring your order in and pay over the phone.

Ferring Country Centre, Rife Way, Ferring  https://www.ferringcountrycentre.org has an online shop for garden supplies such as shrubs, flowers and fruit and vegetable plants. We’ve found them to be great value and by shopping there you’ll be supporting their charitable work – there is an attached stable where riding therapy sessions are given to less able children. There’s free delivery over £20.

Knights Hardware in Rowlands Rd https://knights-hardware-limited.business.site/?utm_source=gmb&utm_medium=referral offer a wide selection of handy items for the home, ideal if tools or other essentials are required. They will deliver anything you need free of charge. The only disadvantage is that you won’t get to see their well-stocked shop with a real ‘old fashioned charm’.

Highdown Garden Centre, Littlehampton Road https://highdown.co.uk/?fbclid=IwAR0KCDHAWtE8_aTlIq5XsWDX7WhmmyN3cWmtw66y0EfuiFAUaRoGm5l05Yk are delivering too but demand is high so you’ll have to be quick for Easter!

Lets all hope for the promised good weather and a lovely, positive weekend for all. Let’s enjoy our homes and gardens – we might be back at work sooner than we think!
